At Northern Construction Paving, we will replace more than just your driveway. If you live on a private road that needs repair or replacement don’t hesitate to call us! The roadway that leads to your driveway should be durable to support private traffic and local deliveries. There are many private roads here in Westchester and Putnam counties. Undoubtedly, most of them have never been repaired or replaced and need reparations. We had over 11 inches of rainfall this past summer in downstate New York. At this time the heavy rain washed out the banks and edges of major roadways and driveways all over Putnam and Westchester. The record-breaking rainfall caused damage that local contractors haven’t seen in decades. Now is the perfect time to consider having your private road fixed. But first, you need to find out what the road needs.
Private Road Rip Out
Depending on the existing condition of the road, it may call for a full replacement. This means all the asphalt will be ripped out and removed. Also, a full rip-out is only required for jobs that are beyond the point of repair. it is never a good idea to repave over heavily cracked asphalt. Installing new sub-base item four is a requirement for a rip-out. This is because some of the existing base material is removed during the rip-out process. New pavement needs a strong foundation to sit on and paving a private road is a major investment. A full rip-out will cost more, but we always give our best recommendation to all our clients.
Full/Partial Asphalt Overlay
If the existing asphalt isn’t heavily cracked, an overlay may be considered over a rip-out. During an overlay, a new layer of asphalt is placed on top of the old pavement. This new layer will be between 1.5″ to 3″ depending on our recommendation for the job or a specific request from the client. Most overlays are usually about 2″ to 2.5″ on average. In some cases, there may be sections of the road that are heavily cracked. If a partial section can’t be overlayed it will have to be fully removed. Also, there may be parts of the road that don’t need to be overlayed. For example, the first 100 feet of the job photographed above starting at the entrance to the road were requested by the client to be left as it was.
