Is Your Driveway On A Hill? Water Runoff Can Be Messy!

Is Your Driveway on a hill? Do you consistently have leaves, dirt, and other debris washing onto the pavement? This is directly caused by water runoff. There are many homeowners in Westchester and Putnam Counties who share the same problem because of the location they live in. Heavy rains can not not only cause washouts but can also flood your yard and saturate the soil. As a result, if you live on a hill, your front or backyard over time may become muddy from excess water infiltration not being able to drain sufficiently. There is a way to solve this problem and that’s by installing a curtain drain. Northern Construction has installed hundreds of curtain drains over the last 30 years. We can help assist you in efficiently redirecting the flow of water to prevent it from pooling in your yard or driveway.

How Do You Install A Curtain Drain?

Curtain drains are normally installed on slopes where water follows a distinct route toward low ground. They’re very effective at preventing unwanted water pooling when installed correctly. First, we start by digging a trench along the grade of the slope. The trench is generally 1-3 feet deep depending on the severity of the water runoff. After the trench is dug we lay a 6-inch perforated PVC pipe in the trench. We finish by covering the pipe with 3/4″ gravel. The gravel allows water to naturally drain through and into the pipe. The pipe can be piped off your property or connected to a catch basin if you don’t want the water to drain above the ground.
