How Do You Build Patios And Walkways Out Of Pavers?
Constructing a proper walkway or patio starts with installing a strong base layer. We use four inches of item four, which is compacted thoroughly to create the perfect foundation. On top of the item four one inch of fine pea gravel is carefully spread evenly using a screed rod. Pea gravel is used over sand because if heaving is to occur from freezing the walkway will move up and down uniformly. The pavers are placed on top of the pea gravel in a uniform design that takes patience to perfect. The finalized step is to brush the pavers with polymetric sand, which contains cement. The sand is brushed into the joints of the stones until the joints are filled evenly. Polymetric sand contains cement, so adding a touch of water to the stones will allow the cement to bond and hold the stones together. The Final result is blocks that are bonded together by cement that will not move.
How Do You Maintain Your Paver Walkway Or Patio
Maintenance for pavers is easy and doesn’t require much time or effort. Simply keeping them clean of debris or powerwashing them during the warmer months will keep them looking their best. You rarely encounter any weeds growing in between the joints because of the polymetric sand. Occasionally ants might make their way into the joints and push the sand out. Keeping an extra bag of polysand on hand is recommended to refill any joints where sand was pushed out by ants. Avoid spilling oils, grease, paint, and other substances as these could stain pavers. It is recommended to keep your walkway or patio clear of any possible spills that could happen. If your pavers do get stained, you can go on Unilock’s website to see the products available that will clean pavers and not bleach them of their colors.
